Each year, more adult education teachers
and students gain access to computers and
the Internet. Yet there is a growing awareness
that teachers need more help to effectively
integrate technology into their teaching
practice.
Our technology workshops for adult education
teachers begin with the teachers, not the
technology. We offer participants the opportunity
to discover technological tools and resources
that address their students' specific learning
goals, and to share those tools with their
peers through facilitated discussions and
group activities.
Our sessions raise participants' technological
confidence by building on their teaching
strengths. We provide time for them to practice
skills, develop questions, and learn how
to take a more active role in decision-making
about technology products and practices.
This approach has proven as useful to teachers
new to computers as it has for more experienced "techies."
Using the Internet
Our special area of expertise is helping teachers
use the Internet more effectively with their
students. The introduction of the Internet
into an adult education classroom provides
teachers with a dizzying array of resource
materials and activities. Our workshops show
teachers how to find appropriate resources,
evaluate them, and integrate them into their
lessons.
Customized Workshop Options
We can design a training to meet the needs
of a single program or an entire state. We
can also work with you to develop anything
from a 2-4 hour workshop for teachers to
a year-long, multiple session train-the-trainer
program.
Although we focus on the Internet, our approach
can support the adoption of any technology.
Popular training themes include:
- Using the
Internet in Instruction
We are able to work with teachers
with different levels of Internet
experience. We can help beginners
learn how to effectively find and
evaluate materials and activities
on the Web; show more experienced
teachers how to write lesson plans
that effectively incorporate these
materials; and work with tech-savvy
teachers on fully integrating the
Internet into a classroom project.
- Web-Publishing
Our Web page design workshops place
this topic in the context of adult
education practice. Sessions help
teachers develop Web-based projects
as a learning activity for their
students, a curriculum development
initiative, or some combination of
the two.
Our Experience
World Education has provided training and
technical assistance in nonformal education
for adults and children around the world
since 1951. We've delivered technology training
to a wide variety of programs in the United
States, and we bring examples and insights
from the teachers we've met across the country
to every training session.
